Our Practice

Before optimal communication can occur, all parties involved need to be seen, heard, acknowledged, and understood. Embedding communication practice in that context takes sustained mindfulness and effort, moving one to listen before speaking and reflect before engaging others. It is in that spirit that SWYM Communications acknowledges that it operates on the unceded ancestral lands of the səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Peoples, each with their own unique culture, language, history, and perspective. 

We are grateful to be near the ocean, mountains, and areas such as the Say Nuth Khaw Yum Park and Ch’ich eliwxih (Mount Seymour) that fuel our creativity and anchor us in our community and the environment of which Indigenous Peoples have been custodians since time immemorial. Our commitment is to actively seek greater understanding and knowledge of the history of what is now known as Canada so that we can become more aware of the origin and impact of the language we use, making it more respectful and inclusive, and enabling us to be more effective in helping you Say What You Mean, or SWYM, confidently.
